June 3, 2004 New London, CT - Ortronics is adding LC fiber-optic connectors to its OptiMo field-installable connectors product line. The LC connectors complement the current offering of SC and ST compatible products allowing greater flexibility in structured cabling system design while providing a solution that is easier and faster to install.

The LC field-installable connectors are available for singlemode, multimode 50/125-micron and multimode 62.5/125-micron fiber. The 50/125 connectors support 10 Gigabit multimode applications using a laser-optimized fiber stub consistent with the optical fiber recommendations of TIA/EIA-568-B.3-1.

The field-installable fiber connectors facilitate increased productivity through speedier installation while maintaining excellent optical performance. They terminate with a simple, proven opto-mechanical splice, minimizing installation time, eliminating wasteful consumables and the inconvenience of applying and curing epoxy and other adhesives. The uncertainty of hand polishing is bypassed with Ortronics' factory polished end-face, which provides optimum end-face geometry for low insertion loss, low reflectance and high data rate transmission. A precision ceramic ferrule ensures durability, temperature stability, and scratch resistance.

OptiMo field-installable connectors can be terminated in approximately one minute, with minimum tools required, according to the company. A compact kit contains all the tools necessary to complete termination, including a unique "third hand" tool. With the OptiMo system, there is no need for expensive equipment such as curing ovens, UV light sources, or polishing machines, and there is no power source required. This straightforward termination procedure allows even new installers to get high quality, consistent results from the start.
