ID Photonics adds ultra-narrow line width tunable laser source to CoBrite line

Test and measurement instrument specialist ID Photonics has unveiled an ultra-narrow line width tunable laser source as an extension of its CoBrite laser portfolio. The new laser source, jointly developed with Teraxion, provides a line width of less than 1 kHz. ID Photonics expects the new offering to find use in coherent R&D test applications beyond 100 Gbps.

Test and measurement instrument specialist ID Photonics has unveiled an ultra-narrow line width tunable laser source as an extension of its CoBrite laser portfolio. The new laser source, jointly developed with Teraxion, provides a line width of less than 1 kHz. ID Photonics expects the new offering to find use in coherent R&D test applications beyond 100 Gbps.

Housed in the CoBrite multi-channel laser platform, the new laser source can be mixed with all already available sources and chassis variants to provide increased flexibility for testing current and next-generation transmission formats, ID Photonics says.

"Future transmission speeds are enabled by increasing constellation size and baud rate, which impose even more stringent requirements for narrow line width light sources when compared to current 100-Gbps DP-QPSK technology,” said David Stahl, CEO of ID Photonics. “Our new laser source supports researchers and system designers in the evaluation and the design of next-generation networks with the best-in-class tunable narrow line width laser for multi-channel operation currently available. It makes the CoBrite laser platform a future-proof investment for the evaluation of future ultra-high-capacity network architectures."

ID Photonics will display the the new ultra narrow line width laser in Booth 3556 at next week’s OFC 2014 in San Francisco.
