DECEMBER 12, 2007 -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (search for EXFO) has introduced the FTB-8140 Transport Blazer SONET/SDH and OTN test module for high-speed networking applications at 40 and 43 Gbits/sec. The FTB-8140 Transport Blazer is designed to ensure next-generation SONET/SDH and ROADM network buildouts meet industry standards, as well as offer the service, quality, and reliability necessary for network service providers (NSPs) to deploy voice, data, and video services.

The FTB-8140 Transport Blazer test module provides SONET/SDH and OTN test functions to address the stringent demands of commissioning and troubleshooting 43-Gbit/sec networks. EXFO says that an intuitive, feature-rich interface and OTN with ITU-T G.709 forward error correction (FEC) streamline testing of OC-768/STM-256 links without compromising on functionality. The FTB-8140 is also compatible with NRZ, ODB, DSPK, and DQPSK optical transmission protocols.

NSPs also can leverage EXFO's FTB-400 Universal Test System, a PC-based, modular field-test platform. Optical modules that can be combined with the FTB-8140 include a chromatic dispersion, polarization mode dispersion, and optical spectrum analyzer (OSA), as well as the FTB-7000 OTDR family.

In addition, the FTB-8140 Transport Blazer module can be matched with the recently introduced FTB-8130NGE Power Blazer to address DSn/PDH, SONET/SDH (155 Mbits/sec to 40 Gbits/sec), OTN (2.7 to 43 Gbits/sec), and Ethernet (10 Mbits/sec to 10GigE LAN/WAN) testing requirements in a single platform.
