SEPTEMBER 25, 2007 -- EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (search for EXFO) today announced the release of its AXS-200/850 Ethernet module, a handheld Ethernet and IP test device that dramatically simplifies processes when turning up commercial and residential Ethernet and IP services, say company representatives.

The AXS-200/850 Ethernet test module boasts simple pass/fail displays and one-touch function buttons to address the real-life challenges experienced by field technicians when turning up or maintaining Ethernet and IP services.

This latest test module from EXFO is housed inside the multi-service and multi-medium AXS-200 SharpTESTER platform, a modular handheld unit for the access network market that the company claims can be easily configured for copper/DSL/triple-play, Ethernet, or optical testing applications using a common Windows-CE graphical user interface.

Intuitive, streamlined navigation on the AXS-200/850 reduces the learning curve for novice and expert technicians alike, says EXFO, ensuring bit-error rate (BER), RFC 2544, IP connectivity/ping, and quality of service (QoS) tests can be completed efficiently and reliably. One-click intelligent loopback testing enables single-technician testing of local and remote access points, and flexible on/off-screen reporting allows technicians to save results to a flash key or display results on-screen for immediate review.

"The flexibility and scalability of Ethernet continue to ensure its proliferation throughout carrier networks," notes Etienne Gagnon, EXFO's vice president of product management and marketing. "Carriers are relying on Ethernet technology to support the rapid deployment of triple-play services and, as such, are demanding test solutions that facilitate the turn-up process. Thanks to its powerful, yet easy-to-use test capabilities, the AXS-200/850 responds to these exacting demands, ensuring field technicians can effectively turn up metro Ethernet networks and associated Carrier Ethernet services," he contends.

EXFO representatives will be on-site to demonstrate the simple navigation and advanced functionality of the AXS-200 SharpTESTER platform and AXS-200/850 Ethernet test module at the 2007 FTTH Conference & Expo, to be held September 30 October 4, 2007 in Orlando, FL.
