AUGUST 30, 2007 -- Picosecond Pulse Labs (PSPL), manufacturer of broadband amplifiers, has introduced the Model 8001 Driver Amplifier LABware instrument.

According to the company, the 8001 integrates a power supply, amplitude control, and crossing point control into a single instrument. Each control is separately adjusted through dials on the front panel. The Model 8001 is an excellent choice for driving Lithium Niobate optical modulators up to 12.5 Gbits/sec in the lab, say Picosecond representatives. The 8001 has a typical amplitude of 8Vpp and a risetime of 14 picoseconds. In addition, the 8001 may be used as a linear amplifier with 12 GHz of bandwidth when the instrument's input is kept below its saturation level.

The 8001 is the first in a line of instruments called LABware that takes Picosecond's broadband components and combines them into useful, easy-to-use lab tools, says the company.

"The Model 8001 takes our broadband driver capability and packages it in a form where engineers can simply grab it off the shelf, plug it in, and start working," explains Kipp Schoen, Picosecond's director of marketing. "There are none of the hassles of setting up multiple power supplies and making adjustments."

The Model 8003, a linear amplifier instrument, is expected to be introduced in the near future. A prime application for the 8003 will be as a linear amplifier with flat group delay for photodetector output signals.
