SEPTEMBER 14, 2010 -- EXFO Inc. (Nasdaq:EXFO) (TSX-V:EXF) has unveiled the FTB-1 handheld testing platform. The system combines a variety of modules (which EXFO announced separately -- see "EXFO unveils Ethernet test modules, PON OTDR for FTB-1 handheld platform") with software-based standard tests. The FTB-1 is aimed at FTTH and Ethernet testing in the field.

The FTB-1 leverages an Intel ATOM processor and the Windows Embedded Standard operating system, to enable EXFO’s new EXpert Test Tools portfolio. Expert Test Tools enable the FTB-1 to support additional testing capabilities without the need for additional modules. For example, EXpert VoIP allows field technicians to generate and respond to simulated or live VoIP calls to validate performance during turn-up and troubleshooting. EXpert IP integrates six commonly used datacom test tools into one software application.

The FTB-1 is a handheld platform measures 7.5x9x2 inches -- half the size of the company’s FTB-200. It offers a 7-inch screen TFT display and hybrid touchscreen/keypad navigation. Platform connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet, and multiple USB ports.

EXFO says the FTB-1 gives FTTH and Ethernet field technicians the ability to execute test routines, process results, and generate reports simply and efficiently, while automated update capabilities ensure that the platform is running the latest software version available.
