NOVEMBER 6, 2006 -- Spirent Communications (search for Spirent) today announced the shipment of a new release of the Spirent TestCenter, which the company claims delivers market-leading Layer 2-7 testing capabilities up to 10-Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) speeds.
This release of Spirent TestCenter supports concurrent testing of routers, switches, access, and Layer 4-7 devices on a single Gigabit Ethernet module, reports the company. Spirent TestCenter tests a variety of next-generation devices and networks and increases the value of the customer investment by providing the highest user scalability in the industry with up to six users per module and more than 20 users per chassis, say company representatives.
"With Spirent TestCenter, our customers can have multiple engineers simultaneously testing L4-7 devices, routers, and switches--all on the same module," explains Chris Bohrson, vice president of product marketing, Spirent Communications. "In fact, a single chassis can easily support twenty engineers concurrently without performance degradation using a single software license. This greatly increases the availability of test-bed gear in the lab while minimizing capital costs."
On a single module, Spirent TestCenter offers improved accuracy and double the port density for 10-GbE interfaces, including X2, XENPAK, and CX4, of competitive devices, note Spirent representatives. The same accuracy is available on Spirent's XFP interface, which rounds out Spirent's 10-GbE product portfolio. Tests that compared Spirent TestCenter with competitive products revealed that Spirent TestCenter's latency accuracy for 10 GbE is 10 times more accurate than its competitors' products. According to Spirent, the TestCenter was measured at less than or equal to 50 nsec versus the competition's estimated range of 500 nsec to 4.0 msec.
