AUGUST 24, 2009 -- The test company's model #TG4P1-A features 32-megabit user-programmable pattern memory and single-tap de-emphasis that provide the capability for compliance testing in backplane, copper, and fiber applications.

AUGUST 24, 2009 -- Test equipment manufacturer Centellax Inc. (search Lightwave for Centellax) has released its 10G programmable pattern generator with de-emphasis.

The Centellax model #TG4P1-A is a 0.5- to 13.5-Gbps single-channel programmable pattern generator. Key features such as 32-megabit user-programmable pattern memory and single-tap de-emphasis provide the capability for compliance testing in backplane, copper, and fiber applications such as PCIe, USB3.0, SAS, 802.3ap 10-Gigabit Ethernet, and Displayport testing.

Features include:

  • operation from 500 Mbps to 13.5 Gbps
  • 32-megabit pattern memory and 2-Gigabit storage
  • 0- to 20-dB one-tap de-emphasis to compensate for signal degradation on PCB backplanes and cables
  • divided clock and pattern trigger output
  • adjustable clock phase and differential output (amplitude, DC offset, crossover, de-emphasis)
  • GPIB and USB control
  • LabVIEW drivers available at no cost

Applications includecompliance testing to telecom and datacom specifications requiring unique pattern sequences and stressed eye patterns (with jitter injection); testing ICs with precoded control signals integrated into the data stream; delivering packetized random data; and BER testing with Centellax programmable error detector (which the company plans to announce soon).

"Our customers have been waiting for our programmable pattern generator. Offering new features like programmable patterns and de-emphasis allows us to not only reach new markets, but offer more to our existing customers," says Centellax chief executive officer Julio Perdomo. "The TG4P1-A is the first of our next generation of products. These new products offer many more features at a significant cost-savings compared to competitive products -- which is big deal in today's economy."
