FEBRUARY 20, 2008 EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. has released the IQS-8120NGE and IQS-8130NGE Power Blazer test modules. The modules offer fully integrated SONET/SDH, OTN, and Ethernet testing for multi-service transport equipment in a single module.

FEBRUARY 20, 2008 EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (search for EXFO) has released the IQS-8120NGE and IQS-8130NGE Power Blazer test modules. The modules offer fully integrated SONET/SDH, OTN, and Ethernet testing for multi-service transport equipment in a single module.

The Power Blazer modules, housed inside the IQS-500 or newly launched IQS-600 Integrated Qualification System (modular test platform), meet requirements for multi-service testing in system verification, R&D and manufacturing applications by performing test and troubleshooting routines on network equipment that supports different protocols on the same interface. The IQS-8130NGE Power Blazer, supporting testing rates up to 10.7 Gbits/sec for OTN and 10 Gbits/sec for SONET/SDH and Ethernet (including 10-Gigabit Ethernet LAN and WAN), is suited for multi-service transport platform (MSTP) and ROADM network deployments and maintenance activities, the company asserts. The IQS-8120NGE Power Blazer, handling OTN rates up to 2.7 Gbits/sec, SONET/SDH testing rates up to 2.5 Gbits/sec, and Ethernet testing rates up to 1 GbE, is purpose-built to test and troubleshoot multi-service aggregation switches.

The IQS-500/600 modular test platforms are scalable (up to 100 test modules) systems designed to streamline testing for manufacturing, qualification, system verification, and R&D through simultaneous support of transport and data communication modules (SONET/SDH, OTN, Ethernet, Fibre Channel) and optical testing modules (polarization mode dispersion, optical spectrum analyzer, return loss meters, variable optical attenuators, wavelength meters, etc.) in a single platform.

"The advent of MSTPs and ROADMs is changing the way our customers are looking at testing;" said Etienne Gagnon, EXFO's vice-president of product management and marketing. "System verification, R&D, and manufacturing vendors must now test Ethernet, SONET/SDH, and OTN interfaces simultaneously, generating the need for more all-encompassing characterization tools that can support multi-service testing in a compact format. EXFO continues to remain aligned with these rapidly evolving market needs by delivering the new IQS-8120NGE and IQS-8130NGE Power Blazer -- the most efficient and versatile multi-service Ethernet, SONET/SDH and OTN test solutions on the market."
