TraceSpan announces GPON Xpert Analyzer

FEBRUARY 7, 2008 -- TraceSpan Communications, developer of broadband analysis and monitoring equipment, today announced its new GPON Xpert Protocol Analyzer for GPON (search for GPON) networks.

Company representatives say the GPON Xpert passively records the communication between the optical line terminal (OLT) and the optical network terminals (ONTs) and analyzes it according to the GPON standard. Because the GPON Xpert does not contain a GPON protocol chipset, it can analyze the data independently, without bias, and is not limited by any of the existing GPON chipsets on the market, claims TraceSpan. The system records the communication, analyzes it in real-time or off-line, and then displays the content of data packets, commands, and signaling and indicates deviations from the GPON standard.

"TraceSpan continues to lead the way in protocol analysis of Broadband communication," contends Dr. Hanan Herzberg, TraceSpan founder and CEO. "Developers and users of GPON products were looking for a tool that will expedite GPON deployment and help them overcome issues such as interoperability and compliance with the standard," he reports. "TraceSpan is happy to contribute its knowledge and expertise by bringing to the market an innovative analyzer that can significantly shorten time to market in the race for faster and better broadband communication."

The GPON XpertAsystem is compatible with GPON protocols, including G.984.2, G.984.3, and G.984.4. It displays the content of the protocols and layers, such as Ranging, MAC, and OMCI, in a convenient and user friendly GUI, say company representatives. The analysis results are presented in various lists, tables, and diagrams that can be printed, exported, or reported with an automatic report wizard.

As a multi-layer analyzer, the GPON Xpert also allows viewing and analyzing higher layers such as Ethernet, PPP, PPPoE, IP, TCP, IGMP, and HTTP transmitted over GPON. TraceSpan claims the system is the first analyzer that allows GPON engineers to passively view data in all layers between the actual OLT and ONTs.

The GPON Xpert is currently available to order. TraceSpan will demonstrate the GPON Xpert at its booth, #T1544, at the OFC Exposition, to be held February 26-28, 2008, at the San Diego Convention Center.
