Anritsu enhances micro-OTDR for FTTx and short-range optical networks

JULY 14, 2008 -- New features of the Network Master MT9090A Fault Locator Series include an extended testing range, connector inspection microscope support, multiple language GUIs, and enhanced event analysis of extremely short fiber spans or jumpers.

JULY 14, 2008 -- Anritsu Instruments Company (search for Anritsu) recently announced the enhanced operation of its Network Master MT9090A Fault Locator Series with the release of software version 2.0. Key new features include an extended testing range, connector inspection microscope support, multiple language GUIs, and enhanced event analysis of extremely short fiber spans or jumpers.

With its extended testing range, the MT9090A/MU909011A Fault Locator now becomes a more versatile tool not only for premises troubleshooting of FTTX drop cables, MDU riser cables, and central office cabling, but also the testing of fibers between central offices (Cos) and repeaters, say Anritsu representatives. Analysis of short fibers has also been enhanced to accurately detail events just feet away from the test set.

Since connector condition is vital to delivering quality services, the MT9090A now features a connector inspection microscope. With this option, connector end faces can be viewed on the high-resolution display and cleaning techniques verified. Connector images can then be captured and recalled for later review or inclusion in reports.

To ensure users are immediately comfortable with unit operation, the Network Master now features multiple foreign languages pre-loaded on the instrument and available for use with one simple menu change.

"These enhancements are just another example of Anritsu's ongoing commitment to supply the telecommunications industry with the tools it needs to address the challenges associated with maintaining today's advanced broadband networks," contends Stephen Colangelo, marketing and business development director at Anritsu.

According to the company, the Network Master MT9090A is the first pocket-size platform that does not compromise performance. With the MU909011A Fault Locator module installed, it features extremely high resolution to see those closely spaces splices and connectors, while providing unmatched simplicity, say Anritsu representatives. An integrated testing sequence, as well as no cumbersome set-up, ensures every technician will acquire consistent and accurate results. An Optical Channel Analyser (MU909020A) module is also available for verification and troubleshooting of metro CWDM deployments.

The Network Master MT9090A/MU909011A Fault Locator module with software version 2.0 is now available.
