JDSU two-In-one microscope inspection unit aids FTT deployment

NOVEMBER 6, 2008 -- The new HD3-P is a handheld display with probe designed to give any technician handling optical fiber a dedicated microscope for patch-cord inspections while still providing a probe microscope to inspect the bulkhead connector port.

NOVEMBER 6, 2008 -- JDSU (search for JDSU) has released the HD3-P to help prevent one of the leading causes of network downtime: contaminated, or "dirty," fiber.

The new HD3-P is a handheld display with probe designed to give any technician handling optical fiber a dedicated microscope for patch-cord inspections while still providing a probe microscope to inspect the bulkhead connector port. With the new two-in-one functionality, the HD3-P provides a substantial reduction in inspection time and labor costs in the field, JDSU asserts. With the combined power of two microscopes in one system, there is no need to change inspection tips on the probe, thus preventing the misplacing and mishandling of inspection tips that can cause cross-contamination of fiber, the company adds.

"Our studies have demonstrated that the JDSU HD3-P cuts time-to-inspect in half, making it even easier to apply 'Inspect Before You Connect' best practices when handling optical connectors," said Matt Brown, director of product management for the JDSU Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "This reduction in cycle time allows technicians to significantly increase productivity enabling customers to rapidly realize labor cost savings."

The HD3-P has a 1.8-inch TFT LCD screen to provide images of fiber end faces with optimum resolution and comes standard with the GripSwitch power saver mode to conserve battery life. The HD3-P also provides contamination protection for the male patch cord end by allowing it to be "parked" in the patch cord module.
