JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU) (TSX: JDU) has expanded its T-BERD/MTS line of test equipment with the T-BERD/MTS 5800. The test instrument builds on the T-BERD/MTS heritage of providing multifunction testing in a single unit with new capabilities aimed at applications such as mobile backhaul.

The new mobile backhaul friendly features include the ability to validate synchronization mechanisms in Ethernet networks such as IEEE 1588 and Synchronous Ethernet.

The T-BERD/MTS 5800 combines 10-Gbps Ethernet, SONET/SDH, and PDH testing capabilities in a handheld unit. It also supports JDSU's J-Complete automated test suite.

"The T-BERD/MTS 5800's combination of size and functionality is unmatched in the industry, designed to offer our customers optimal testing efficiency for the deployment and maintenance of Carrier Ethernet networks, which are the backbone of future communications services," said Dr. Lars Friedrich, vice president and general manager in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business segment. "By supporting legacy and emerging technologies, all needs throughout the network's entire service life cycle are covered, enabling a great return on investment for our customers."
