EXFO Inc. (Nasdaq:EXFO) (TSX:EXF) has introduced the intelligent Optical Link Mapper (iOLM) PON test set for FTTX network characterization. The iOLM fully automates the setting of complex OTDR acquisition parameters and presents an easy-to-understand pass/fail status of the FTTH network, EXFO says.

The system reduces test time by as much as 85%, the company asserts. The iOLM also enables new test technicians to get up to speed more quickly, EXFO adds.

The iOLM is designed to choose the optimal PON testing parameters and return a clear link view using icons and diagnoses to pinpoint elements that failed the test. Using EXFO’s patent-pending Link-Aware technology, the iOLM can launch and analyze multiple acquisitions, and then compile and interpret the results within seconds via a single click, EXFO says.

Meanwhile, the In-Line Optical Power Meter feature of the iOLM enables users to connect to the fiber, check power readings, get a link map, and find potential faults without disconnecting the fiber.

Housed in EXFO’s FTB-1 Platform and developed based on the company’s FTB-730 OTDR hardware, the iOLM leverages new and advanced algorithms to identify every fault on the network, the company states.
