Sunrise Telecom adds OTDR and fiber inspection to RxT for mobile backhaul test

Dec. 13, 2011
In response to the increasing use of fiber optics in wireless backhaul networks as well as on cell towers themselves, Sunrise Telecom Inc. (OTC:SRTI) has unveiled the RxT-4000 Fiber Optics Toolkit (FOT) and the FiberScope inspection option to the company’s RxT Smart Productivity Test Platform.

Sunrise Telecom also expects to the new modules to find use in networks using fiber to provide business and cloud-based services.

The new RxT-4000 FOT and FiberScope inspection modules pair with the RxT’s Carrier Ethernet and SONET/SDH modules to enable technicians to perform physical layer testing as well as traffic inspection via the same platform. The new capabilities enable installers and troubleshooters to inspect fiber connectors, analyze fiber for impairments, and located and identify the cause of impairments.

The instrument supports one-button testing to simplify the test process and minimize technician training requirements. Tests also can be preloaded onto the instrument for further ease of use and process consistency. Remote

The RxT FOT is available in multiple wavelength combinations for testing singlemode and multimode fibers. The platform will test four wavelengths and supports both auto and manual mode configuration. It will record event location and identity for the fiber under test. Utilizing Sunrise Telecom’s realGate server offering enables field operations management to track test assets remotely and manage test and job order report information.

The new capabilities are available for order.

“The deployment of fiber optics continues at a rapid pace worldwide, driven by next-generation mobile network turn-up as well as the installation of new high-performance metro and access links,” explained Olga Yashkova, Frost and Sullivan Industry Analyst. “Network deployment and maintenance tools such as the RxT Fiber Optics Toolkit are essential to ensure expedient and efficient infrastructure build-out and up-time assurance.”
