Finisar adds new WaveShaper processors for optical system testing

Sept. 15, 2011
Finisar Corp. (NASDAQ: FNSR) has unveiled new versions of its WaveShaper Programmable Optical Processor. The WaveShaper 1000S/X and 4000S/X offer an extended wavelength range covering both the C- and the L-Band in a single instrument.

Finisar Corp. (NASDAQ: FNSR) has unveiled new versions of its WaveShaper Programmable Optical Processor. The WaveShaper 1000S/X and 4000S/X offer an extended wavelength range covering both the C- and the L-Band in a single instrument. The new WaveShaper members have been designed for system testing of reconfigurable optical networks as well as for laser pulse shaping in metrology and medical systems.

The company also announced availability of version 2.0 of the WaveManager Application Suite. The software package now supports such functions as filter shape prediction and emulation of a comb of laser channels.

WaveManager Application Suite 2.0 helps reduce the cost of system testing via its emulation algorithm for creating DWDM spectra, Finisar asserts. The processor slices and shapes a broadband spectrum, which eliminates the need for banks of modulated laser sources. The instrument also enables the creation of individual spectral shapes for the channels as if they were modulated with different data formats, Finisar adds.

The new software package will be available “shortly” for download from the Finisar website, the company says.

"We are excited to introduce the new WaveShaper 1000S/X and 4000S/X at ECOC," said Dr. Simon Poole, director of new business ventures, Finisar Australia. "These units have been developed in partnership with our customers who have been demanding the ability to use the unique spectral shaping and phase control capability of the WaveShaper across the entire C+L wavelength range for communications as well as pulsed laser applications."
