Finisar Corp. (NASDAQ: FNSR) has introduced the WaveShaper 120 Gain Equalizer, a programmable unit designed for system test applications such as terrestrial or submarine test beds. The product will be demonstrated at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) in Los Angeles, March 8-10, in Finisar's booth #1701.

The new WaveShaper 120 Gain Equalizer modifies optical spectra in the C-Band of long-haul and ultra-long-haul transmission system test beds. It is designed to enable system stressing by setting arbitrary attenuation shapes with high spectral resolution and slopes as steep as 10 dB/nm as well as optimizing system performance by equalizing the spectrum. It is gridless in operation and can be controlled with a frequency resolution of 1 GHz.

The WaveShaper Gain Equalizer is available as a bench-top unit (120S) or for integration as an OEM unit (120M) and can be fully controlled using the graphical user interface of the WaveManager Application Suite. An application programming interface (API) is provided for easy integration in automated test systems. The unit allows several updates per second and therefore minimizes test time.
