March 11, 2005 San Jose, CA -- Sunrise Telecom, a provider of service verification equipment for telecommunications and cable TV networks, has introduced a plug-in SDH/SONET module for its SunSet Modular Test Toolkit (MTT) platform, which is designed for the installation and maintenance of access and metropolitan networks. According to the company, the module supports the installation of international and domestic SDH/SONET, as well as PDH/T-carrier links, covering applications from 1.5 - 2 Mbit/sec up to 2.5 Gbit/sec (STM-16/OC-48).

The company says the module provides complete transmission testing, as well as essential tools such as APS timing, pointer monitoring and adjustment, SDH/SONET overhead control, and decoding for troubleshooting common problems that may be found during the installation of SDH/SONET networks. According to the company, the module's PDH/T-carrier interfaces allow field technicians to verify proper installation and operation of tributary ports before being mapped or de-mapped to or from SDH/SONET signals.

"With the success of our SunSet MTT platform, adding SDH and SONET capabilities was a normal evolution," comments Juan Luis Masmela, senior product manager for Sunrise.

According to the company, with more than 30 different test modules, the platform gives service installers broad support for installing and troubleshooting voice and data wireline access applications. Such applications include T1/E1, T3/E3, SONET/SDH, ISDN, IP, Gigabit Ethernet, Fiber Channel, ATM, Datacom, HSSI, x-DSL, OTDR, FTTX, and triple play networks. The company says the tool kit's multi-layer diagnostic capability allows technicians to easily cross over among troubleshooting physical, service, and network layers.

The SDH/SONET module and the MTT platform are currently on display at CeBit in Hannover, Germany.
