Agilent's optical dispersion analyzer targets high-speed components, fibers

March 11, 2005 Anaheim, CA -- Agilent has introduced its 86038B optical dispersion analyzer, which the company says is designed for high-throughput manufacturing testing and validation of critical optical/photonic devices such as 10-Gbit/sec and 40-Gbit/sec DWDM components and fibers. According to the company, by delivering test results 100 times faster than previously possible, the analyzer ranks among the fastest and most precise of its kind.

March 11, 2005 Anaheim, CA -- Agilent has introduced its 86038B optical dispersion analyzer, which the company says is designed for high-throughput manufacturing testing and validation of critical optical/photonic devices such as 10-Gbit/sec and 40-Gbit/sec DWDM components and fibers. According to the company, by delivering test results 100 times faster than previously possible, the analyzer ranks among the fastest and most precise of its kind, covering all singlemode fiber telecommunication bands.

The analyzer simultaneously tests all optical component parameters, such as spectral and polarization dependent loss, group delay, and differential group delay, including second-order polarization mode dispersion. Used along with the company's 81600B tunable lasers, the company says the analyzer can achieve dispersion measurements over a band of up to 200 nm to anywhere from 1260 - 1640 nm. According to the company, these performance parameters are critical in regard to the optimization of high-speed, narrow-spaced DWDM transmission systems.

"We enhanced the 86038B to help customers focus on innovative and rapid product development and cost-effective production," explains Werner Berkel, vice president and general manager of Agilent's photonic measurement division.

The analyzer is expected to be available in May, with shipments beginning in June 2005. Pricing starts at $95,000.
