Summary
Digital signal processors (DSP) devices are driving new performance levels, whether supporting coherent or PAM4 transmission. This webinar will examine the current options, recent advances, and roadmap to the next generation.
Research from industry watchers Light Counting and Dell’Oro have noted that next-gen DSPs are on the rise. LightCounting noted demand for 400/800GbE connectivity inside mega data centers and 400/800G DWDM optics on the outside boosted sales of PAM4 and coherent DSP chips in 2019-2023, and this market segment will continue to grow. Likewise, Dell’Oro noted that coherent optical DSPs will influence the growth of the optical DWDM market, reaching $18 billion in revenue by 2028.
During this webinar, we’ll discuss various growth drivers, opportunities and challenges for next-generation DSPs:
- Coherent optical DSPs
- Getting to 800G and 1.6 Tbps
- Standards Efforts
- Interoperability
- Addressing latency issues
- Evolving power rates
- And more

Matthias Berger
Telecom Transmission Lead
Coherent Corp
Matthias Berger started his carrier at Philips Communications Industries in 1992 working on high speed optical interface design and later on designing and architecting SONET/SDH line cards for optical transport systems. After joining Lucent Technologies he focused on WDM transmission and optical engineering. He held several management positions at Alcatel-Lucent and later on Nokia overlooking all optical system hardware design worldwide. His special field is coherent optical transmission where he started working on architectures and concepts from 2006 onwards. In 2018 he joined Finisar, now Coherent Corp., overlooking the Telecom Transmission part of the business with focus on highly integrated coherent optical front ends and modules.
