MAY 18, 2007 -- Avvio Networks (search for Avvio Networks) has announced availability of its eight-port AM2554 multi-protocol multi-rate regenerator.
The AM2554 is the latest member of the A2050/A2500 family of optical data transport modules. Its protocol-independent architecture is designed to enable service providers to provision any protocol on any port, and to support any combination of protocols on a single module. Supported protocols include 100-Mbit/sec Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, OC-3 to OC-48 (with or without FEC), along with many other protocols.
The AM2554 is configured with software commands through its CLI, Telnet, or SNMP interfaces. Up to 40 ports can be configured any-port-to-any-port for use with any protocol in an Avvio Networks' A2050 2U chassis.
An AM2554 can be configured for automatic protection switching (APS), multicast, or broadcast operation, or as multiple 1:1 repeaters. It uses industry-standard, user-accessible SFPs, including C/DWDM, allowing field upgrades and reconfiguration.
"Our AM2554 provides an exciting combination of high density and flexibility," said Leo Goyette, founder and CEO. "Today's networks are multi-protocol, multi-wavelength networks. Service providers are necessarily cost conscious yet need to remain flexible and responsive to customer demand. The AM2554 allows service providers to reduce operating and sparing costs while providing more dynamic network capability".
The AM2554 occupies a single slot in Avvio Networks' A2050 Chassis and can be used with its family of optical add/drop multiplexers (OADMs) and EDFAs for a complete end-to-end application.
