January 3, 2006 San Jose, CA -- Micrel has introduced its SY88903ALKG, SY88149CL, SY88313BLNG, and SY88343BL, a series of 1.25 to 3.2-Gbit/sec limiting post amplifiers offered in small form factor packages, suited for use in optical modules for datacom, telecom, and passive optical network (PON) systems.
According to the company, the ICs feature a 3.3-V power supply, as well as higher gain and higher sensitivity for either signal or loss of signal indicators. The devices are designed to work for Fast Ethernet, OC3 to OC48, and parallel 10-Gigabit Ethernet data rates.
"Micrel's newest post amplifiers are optimized for detecting wide variations in input levels, and for sensing the low input signal levels typically encountered in optical network and PON applications," comments Thomas S. Wong, vice president high bandwidth products for Micrel.
The company says the SY88149CL, SY88315BL, and the SY88343BL all feature high sensitivity SD or LOS path capability, to either detect signal or to detect loss of signal - a crucial feature for reducing system cost by allowing the use of lower gain TIAs, says the company.
The ICs are offered in MSOP packaging with backward-compatibility to the company's existing family of post amplifiers; the devices are also available in 10-pin MLF packaging.
The ICs are currently available in volume. Pricing starts at $1.95 for 10K quantities.
