August 16, 2006 Quebec City -- TeraXion today introduced a new platform for its ClearSpectrum product line, the DCMX, an "extended reach" fixed chromatic dispersion compensation module (DCM). According to the company, it is the industry's smallest DCM package.
Designed for 10- or 40-Gbit/sec metro and long-haul DWDM networks, the DCMX offers high compensation levels for spans up to 200 km, say company representatives. It also offers low insertion loss of < 3dB.
According to TeraXion, the DCMX is an attractive alternative to dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) in cost-sensitive networks because its small footprint minimizes space and its low insertion loss reduces amplification requirements. Based on the company's patented multi-channel fiber Bragg grating technology, the compensators are ideal for today's cost sensitive networks beyond 1,000 km. It is available as a mountable optical module or as a compact OEM component.
The new ClearSpectrum platform will be showcased at ECOC 2006.
