Ameritech has selected Alcatel Network Systems Inc., Richardson, TX, as its primary synchronous optical network transport vendor for the carrier`s Ultimatelink Sonet loop that serves the Chicago metropolitan area. In addition, Alcatel is one of only two vendors to supply Ameritech with Sonet transport equipment for planned network upgrades and overlays through the end of 1997. This agreement is for more than $100 million.

Also, Alcatel Network Systems and GTE Government Systems Corp. Services Sector have won a U.S. Air Force contract valued at approximately $155 million to enhance communications networks located at 65 Air Force bases in the continental United States. Alcatel will provide its Sonet multiplexers, digital crossconnects and microwave radios for digital communications.
