Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) introduced an advanced erbium-doped fiber which can be used to extend the bandwidth of optical amplifiers, and offers a significant advantage in amplifier design, cost and productivity.
Corning's new PureMode Er 1550C3, can be used to extend the bandwidth of a conventional-band (C-band) Erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) from 32 nm to 38 nm, increasing channel carrying capacity by 20 percent. The new erbium-doped fiber also offers improved ripple performance, which simplifies amplifier design, reducing cost. PureMode Er 1550C3, manufactured with Corning's patented outside vapor deposition process, also provides reliability and uniformity.
PureMode Er 1550C3 is currently available, and will be on display March 17-21 at the Optical Fiber Communications (OFC) Conference (booth #2638) in Anaheim, CA.
