14 August 2003 Sunnyvale, CA Lightwave--Component supplier Alliance Fiber Optic Products (AFOP), today announced the release of a series of miniature integrated power monitors designed for channel monitoring in DWDM systems and add/drop modules. The power monitors can also be used for signal/pump power monitoring in erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) and Raman amplifiers where integrated solutions are replacing traditional fused fiber tap and photodiode designs.

The new power monitor series of products offers extremely low insertion loss (less than 0.3 dB including polarization-dependent loss effects), causing minimal impact on system loss budgets, according to the company. In addition, the power monitors feature a compact footprint with ultra wide bandwidth, high reliability, broad spectral bandwidth, and very low polarization. Custom tap ratios are available. The power monitors are available in both standard and integrated fused models.
