Semiconductor optical amplifier
The 1901 semiconductor optical amplifier operates in the 1550-nm wavelength window and features stabilized gain over a range of operating parameters, including input/output power levels, operating wavelengths, and drive currents. According to the manufacturer, the constant gain offers reduced signal distortions and reduced inter-channel crosstalk. Applications include wdm systems, optical inline amplification, and gating for high-speed optical switching. The amplifier uses an InGaAsP chip, manufactured using Buried Ridge Stripe 2-inch wafer technology. An adiabatic taper is included to reduce the far-field divergence, and optimized lens technology allows 2- to 3-dB coupling loss per facet.
