June 25, 2002--Lightconnect (Newark,CA) announced that its diffractive MEMS-based dynamic gain equalizer (DGE) has qualified for Telcordia GR-1209-CORE.
The analysis of the company's DGE included various stress tests for temperature, shock, vibration and pull. The device was monitored for changes in insertion loss and polarization dependent loss, and its functional performance was examined before and after each stress test.
"This is evidence that the technology is mature enough for system vendors to replace the static gain equalizers of the past with high performance, reliable DGEs that support dynamic optical networks," said Yves LeMaitre, vice president of marketing of Lightconnect.
The company recently unveiled what it claims is the first MEMS-based dynamic channel equalizer, designed to equalize or block individual optical channels across the entire C-band on a 50-GHz grid. Lightconnect also introduced a dynamic gain equalizer module, designed for small size, flexibility and ease of use in dynamically compensating gain profiles for optical amplifiers, earlier this year.
