Batelco launches international 400G wavelength service
During the recent Capacity Europe trade show in London, Batelco, part of the Beyon Group, introduced its new Bwave 400G wavelength service to address customers' data demands.
The new service, which leverages Ciena’s solutions and runs over BGN (Batelco’s Gulf Network), will enable Batelco to serve its diverse set of customers more effectively, including wholesale providers, hyperscalers, enterprises, data center operators and content providers.
BGN spans over 1,400 km and serves as a protected terrestrial network connecting the GCC to the Middle East and the rest of the world.
Batelco has raised its data capacity by 400% with the significant expansion allowing for a substantial increase in bandwidth, enabling users to enjoy faster speeds, smoother streaming, enhanced productivity and improved overall online experience. Customers can now benefit from multi-terabit connectivity.
“We are continuously enhancing our existing capabilities while investing in new infrastructure,” said Hani Askar, Chief Global Business Officer for Batelco. “By expanding our capabilities on the BGN and leveraging our strong partnership with Ciena, we are now the first provider in Bahrain to provide 400G capacity with “Bwave” service.”
This latest upgrade comes on the heels of Batelco joining the SEA-ME-WE 6 (Southeast Asia – Middle East – Western Europe) submarine cable consortium, which is building a 21,700 km-long undersea telecommunications cable system connecting Bahrain with 14 other countries. Batelco is investing in developing a regional subsea cable, the ‘Al Khaleej’ Cable, which the Company will fully own, enhancing the region’s data exchange.
“The announcement builds on recent investments in the regional Sea-Me-We-6 and Al Khaleej subsea cables and the advanced Beyon Data Oasis data center, which help drive the acceleration of Bahrain’s digital transformation and the growth of the country’s digital economy,” Askar said.
