Worldwide optical transceiver sales to enjoy 10% CAGR through 2022: Technavio
Global sales of optical transceivers will experience a compound annual growth rate of 10% through 2022, according to “Global Optical Transceiver Market 2018-2022,” a market research report from Technavio. Overall, the optical transceiver space will see $3.26 billion of incremental growth from 2017 to the end of the forecast period, the market research firm predicts.
Not surprisingly, the datacom sector is expected to lead the way. The segment accounted for 44% of the market last year, and Technavio expects datacom’s market share to increase to 46% by 2022. Meanwhile, as other market research firms have called out WDM as a driver of systems sales (see, for example, “ZTE ban depresses 2Q18 optical network systems sales: Dell’Oro Group” and “Deployment of disaggregated WDM systems moving beyond webscale DCI: Dell’Oro”), Technavio expects this trend to drive optical transceiver sales as well. Meanwhile, an overall transition from copper to fiber, particularly in the enterprise and datacom segments, should bode well for optical transceiver demand overall, the market research firm believes.
Asia-Pacific will prove to be the largest market from a geographic perspective, accounting for 63% of sales growth over the forecast period. Sales of optical transceivers are expected to climb 8.24% this year versus 2017.
