CP-TEL uses GPON optical transceivers from Champion ONE for FTTP services expansion

Champion ONE says it has supplied GPON optical transceivers to CP-TEL for use in the service provider's fiber to the premises (FTTP) network in North Central Louisiana. The optical module vendor says its GPON optics enabled CP-TEL to turn up services quickly and at a significantly lower cost than use of similar devices from CP-TEL's legacy provider would have required.

CP-TEL serves rural residents and businesses in Louisiana's Natchitoches, Sabine, and DeSoto Parishes. It is an existing customer for Champion ONE; the service provider previously had installed Champion ONE's bi-directional SFP+ optical transceivers to double capacity on its backhaul network. That experience gave CP-TEL confidence that Champion ONE could supply optical modules compatible with the service provider's already fielded systems, according to the module house. Champion ONE says it supplied in-stock SFP GPON optical line terminal (OLT) optics at what it describes as "a fraction of the cost." The savings enabled CP-TEL to invest in spare modules for future use.

"Champion ONE has always been very responsive to our needs and are quick to help in any way that they can," said Michael Cheatwood, the network operations manager at CP-TEL in charge of the upgrade.
