Avago Technologies unveils long-reach 4G Fibre Channel transceivers
SEPTEMBER 25, 2006 -- Avago Technologies (search for Avago) has announced the availability of its singlemode optical transceivers targeted at 4-Gbit/sec Fibre Channel storage networking applications such as inter-switch links, storage replication, and other long-reach applications. The small-form-pluggable (SFP) modules are RoHS-compliant and deliver superior electromagnetic interference (EMI) benefits and device performance, resulting in increased port density and faster time to market, the company says.
"Customers can trust Avago to deliver world-class optical components that best meet their product needs," said Adam Carter, director of marketing for Avago Technologies' Fiber Optic Products Division. "Our leadership in industry standards will continue to play a key role as our products evolve to higher data rates such as 8G and 10G."
According to RHK, an industry analyst firm, a 55 percent compound annual growth rate is expected for the 4-Gbit/sec long-reach optics market by 2010. The demand for 4-Gbit/sec storage products continues to grow as enterprises and service providers address growing network demands, such as disaster recovery, business continuity, remote offices, and a significant increase in data storage requirements.
The AFCT-57R5APZ (4-km reach) and AFCT-57R5ATPZ (10-km reach) transceivers are compliant with ANSI FC-PI-2 physical layer standards and support Fibre Channel applications at 1-, 2- and 4-Gbit/sec data rates. Both products are compatible with IEEE 802.3 for gigabit applications and feature integrated diagnostic monitoring interface (DMI) capabilities. Additionally, device performance characteristics enable lower manufacturing costs and testing requirements.
Avago's AFCT-57R5APZ is available now. The AFCT-57R5ATPZ is available through limited distribution and will be generally available in October.
