DiCon Fiberoptics Inc. has unveiled a compact 100-GHz network tunable filter able to select one channel at a time from network traffic with a 100-GHz channel plan. The filter can be scanned rapidly over the C- or L-Band or parked at a requested channel. The company sees the product as ideal for deployment in reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) networks, channel monitoring, fiber-to-the-x (FTTx), or other applications that require a flexible and reliable filter component. The network tunable filter is a new design based on DiCon’s MEMS tunable filter technology, but optimized with an efficient, cost-effective optical core. “Our new MEMS network tunable filter further cements DiCon’s position as the leading manufacturer of reliable and high-performance tunable optical filters,” said Robert Schleicher, vice president of product development. “The compact form factor sets a new benchmark for MEMS tunable filters.” DiCon’s device is 38 mm long x 17 mm wide x 12 mm high. It operates by collecting and collimating light from the input fiber, and then de-multiplexing the light via a grating. The demultiplexed light reflects off a MEMS mirror, which is precisely controlled to reflect the requested channel to the output fiber.
