OE Solutions, AimValley intro new Smart SFP optical transceivers

Oct. 21, 2014
OE Solutions and AimValley have expanded their line of Smart SFP optical transceivers with the TPoP (Transparent PDH over Packet) and CSoP (Channelized SONET/SDH over Packet) optical modules. The transceivers are part of the Smart SFP Network Migration portfolio, which comprises modules that promote plug-and-play TDM-to-packet migration.

The TPoP Smart SFP enables transport of an E1 signal over packet and WDM networks when plugged into a switch or a router. The channelized STM-1/OC-3 CSoP Smart SFP aggregates up to 63 E1 channels from different service end-points in an SFP form factor.

The TPoP and CSoP Smart SFP modules obviate the need for service providers to install dedicated circuit emulation cards in their routers or switches, or a dedicated TDM-over-packet box, to support the migration to packet networking from legacy infrastructure. In addition to its benefits for traditional service providers, the TPoP and CSoP also should provide useful to utility network operators who have many smaller data streams, the companies believe.

"Together with TSoP (Transparent SONET/SDH over Packet) Smart SFP, our existing solution for clear-channel STM-1/OC-3 or STM-4/OC-12 transport, TPoP and CSoP Smart SFP extend our Smart SFP Network Migration portfolio," said Theo Muys, CEO of AimValley. "Migrating TDM network to packet has never been simpler. The only thing our customers need to do is to plug in our Smart SFP into their Ethernet switch."

AimValley is providing additional information at the Broadband World Forum, Booth F10, this week.
