Sagitta offers Cometx laser cleavers for connector termination

Sagitta Engineering Solutions Ltd. has added the Cometx family to their portfolio of laser cleavers for connector and bare fiber termination applications.

According to information provided by Fiber Optic Center, which distributes the cleavers, laser cleaving is free of chips and other mechanical cleave problems that operators may encounter using other cleaving technology. The use of laser cleaving can eliminate certain polishing steps in applications using physical contact connectors -- or even all polishing steps when dealing with bare fiber with no physical contact.

The laser cleaver platform also is smaller, lighter, and less expensive than competing parallel products, Fiber Optic Center says.

The Cometx line includes:

  • Cometx-Si for laser cleaving of single-fiber connectors prior to polishing
  • Cometx-Mt for laser cleaving of multiple- and/or single-fiber connectors prior to polishing
  • Cometx-Ssp for laser cleaving of multiple- and/or single-fiber connectors prior to polishing when using single-step polishing
  • Cometx-Bf for laser cleaving of multiple- and/or single-fibers in bare fiber applications (for non-physical contact connectors).

The platforms are upgradable; a Cometx-Si may be upgraded to a Cometx-Mt or higher versions, for example. Most of these upgrades can be done in the field.
