July 16, 2002--Multiplex, Inc. is introducing a small-form-factor 300-pin transponder. The MTP203 is compliant with the multisource agreement (MSA) that governs 300-pin transponders. It measures 2.2" x 3" x 0.55". The MTP203 can be used as a transmission link of up to 40 km or more for short- and intermediate-reach applications.

The MTP203 is configured with Multiplex's own base components: An electro-absorption modulated source laser (EML) and PIN-based receiver (with integrated limiting amplifier), plus multiplexing/demultiplexing components. Like its first generation transponders, Multiplex offers variations of the MTP203 to cover the entire spectrum of 10-Gbit/sec applications (OC-192, 10 Gigabit Ethernet and forward-error-correction). The EML source laser is available in 1310 and 1550-nm versions.

Due to the high-performance nature of Multiplex's EML and receiver, the MTP203 offers extremely high sensitivity (typically -16.5 dBM at a bit-error-rate of 1 x 10‾¹² which exceeds the MSA's specs), "clear EML eye" advantage and jitter performance. Multiplex is currently sampling the MTP203, with volume production slated for the fourth quarter of 2002.
