11 November 2002 -- Optoelectronic module developer Opto Speed, Ruschlikon, Switzerland, has expanded its 40Gbit/s optical receiver portfolio to serve for line-interface, client-interface and very short reach (< 2km) applications.
"This suite of unique receivers puts us in a position to play a major role in the 40-gigabit-per-second markets as we address the most promising VSR and network interface applications with our state-of-the-art modules", said Dr. Dieter Huber, product line manager of optical front-ends.
Opto Speed's key account manager Dr. Tilman Hoss said: "The competitive pricing we offer helps to overcome the existing cost barriers for the deployment of 40Gbit/s systems."
The differential receiver modules are designed in compliance with the multi-source agreement announced in March 2002 by Fujitsu and JDS Uniphase. They comprise in a small footprint package a PIN detector, a post amplifier and a limiting amplifier with differential outputs, all monolithically integrated on a single InP chip.
The monolithic integration allows a large differential output signal of 800V/W which can directly be fed into a DEMUX/CDR. Additional electronic post amplifiers can therefore be omitted.
The RX40D0-130 is designed for very short reach (< 2 km) transponder applications in central-offices.
The RX400D0-230 is optimised for line-interface applications, where the signals are optically preamplified. For client-interfaces of transport systems the RX40D0-530 with a conversion gain of 800V/W has been developed. Sampling has already started and larger volume will be available in the beginning of 2003.
