Qingdao Netcom awards Lucent with optical transmission expansion contract
July 6, 2005 Murray Hill, NJ and Qingdao, China -- Lucent has won a $1.2 million contract to supply Qingdao Netcom, a subsidiary of China Netcom, with the Lucent Metropolis ADM Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP). The company says the contract marks another significant win with the carrier, since the two parties' signing of an optical transmission contract last year.
Under the contract's terms, Lucent will also provide spares to support its previously installed DWDM systems and multiplexers, including its MetropolisEON, WaveStarTDM 10G, WaveStarADM 16/1, and WaveStar1.6T platforms.
"Today's announcement is another demonstration of our strong competitive edge in the fast growing China market, as well as our strategic partnership with leading service providers in China," comments Norman Lam, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Lucent Technologies China.
According to a press release, Qingdao Netcom's optical transmission network expansion project is part of China Netcom's Intelligent Network Project, which aims to alleviate network congestion. When operational in July, Qingdao Netcom says its network will be able to meet growing demands for higher network capacity, reliability, and scalability, while offering new revenue-generating data services including Gigabit Ethernet.
