ProLabs has unveiled a QSFP28 100G ZR4 optical transceiver line in connection with SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, the major event for cable MSOs (being held virtually this week as the “SCTE Cable-Tec Expo Virtual Experience”). The optical modules target applications requiring unamplified reaches beyond 40 km up to 80 km.
The 100G ZR4 QSFP28 optical transceivers, which feature integrated avalanche photodiode (APD) receivers and semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) amplification technology, obviate the need for separate open line systems between switches and routers, says ProLabs. The company expects the optical modules to find favor for service network backhaul and distribution applications.
“Providing 100G services that reach beyond 40 km in lower-cost QSFP28 ports is an integral performance and efficiency goal for service providers,” said Patrick Beard, CTO at ProLabs. “Recognizing this need, our transceivers maximize cost-efficiency and reliability without compromising on performance.”
