Xilinx All-Programmable OTN Transponder/Muxponder/Switching Subsystems

March 17, 2016
The Xilinx 10x10G Packet-Optical Transport System (P-OTS) Muxponder Subsystem supports both single line card and "pizza box" designs in which up to ten 10-Gbps client signals are multiplexed into Optical Transport Network (OTN) OTU4 containers.
The Xilinx 10x10G Packet-Optical Transport System (P-OTS) Muxponder Subsystem supports both single line card and "pizza box" designs in which up to ten 10-Gbps client signals are multiplexed into Optical Transport Network (OTN) OTU4 containers. The P-OTS muxponder provides ten 10-Gbps ports, each configured for OTU2/2e/1e or native 10G clients. These last can include 10G SONET/SDH, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, FC-800, or FC-1200. The subsystem adapts and multiplexes ingress OTU2 services with a connection granularity of ODU2 or LO ODUj contained in the ODU2. It also will map native 10G clients into an ODU2 or ODUFlex. Each OTU-4 port interfaces to a FEC IP block and SerDes for line optics. The FEC ports support GFEC and other FEC schemes. They are configured for pre- or post-scrambling.

OTU2 and OTU4 Section monitoring is implemented at the framer blocks; ODU2 and ODU4 path monitoring is implemented at the mux/demux block. The mapper monitor-MAC function performs ingress and egress 10 Gigabit Ethernet client monitoring (reduced RMON). SONET PMs include errored seconds from BIP values contained in B1, B2, and J0.Judge's comment: "Great new capabilities for a FPGA subsystem. Allows ASSP functionality in a FPGA."Click here to return to the 2016 Lightwave Innovation Reviews page.
