March 11, 2016
MACOM’s MAXP-37161A is a highly integrated, low power, fully non-blocking 16-channel 28 Gbps crosspoint switch targeted for 100 Gigabit Ethernet, EDR InfiniBand, and OTN applications. It is designed to compensate for signal loss in backplanes and copper cables.
MACOM's MAXP-37161A is a highly integrated, low power, fully non-blocking 16-channel 28 Gbps crosspoint switch targeted for 100 Gigabit Ethernet, EDR InfiniBand, and OTN applications. It is designed to compensate for signal loss in backplanes and copper cables. The switch is equipped with integrated clock and data recovery (CDR), adaptive continuous time linear equalization (ADCTLE) and decision feedback equalization (DFE), compensating up to 32 dB loss at 12.9 GHz. Retiming is used to eliminate residual jitter and provide customers with a clean signal for transmitting to downstream devices.

MACOM says its low-latency signal conditioner technology, as exemplified in the MAXP-37161, enables a smooth transition for next-generation 100 Gigabit Ethernet, EDR InfiniBand, OTN applications, and proprietary signaling by correcting for insertion loss, crosstalk, reflections due to impedance mismatches, and other channel impairments. The integration of crosspoint switch functionality enables simple implementation of redundancy switching, loop back, and data monitoring to increase system robustness and shorten time to market.

MACOM asserts the MAXP-37161 is an ideal switching device for optical OEM system designers that addresses challenging requirements in server, switching, and routing applications.

Judge's comment: "This product fills an important segment of the connectivity hierarchy with a wide bandwidth and non-blocking crosspoint switch servicing backplane application with over 32 dB without FEC. This is a new benchmark connectivity."
