April 26, 2004 Newport Beach, CA -- Mindspeed Technologies Inc. announced that LG Electronics Inc. is shipping Mindspeed's OC-12 ATM Shaper in its MSR40 multi-service switch.

The LG Electronics MSR40 multi-service ATM/MPLS switch offers ATM-layer traffic management capabilities that provide quality of service (QoS) guarantees. The MSR40 also offers ATM switching signaling and multifunction switch and router support. The switch passed the Korea Telecom Benchmark Test and won the LG corporate "Golden Design" recognition award for best new equipment design.

"Mindspeed's M27651 application specific network processor met our requirements for superior ATM layer traffic shaping capabilities which enabled the MSR40 to offer QoS guarantees. Using a fully programmable solution allows us to rapidly respond to changing customer requirements. This feature, in addition to strong support from Mindspeed, was instrumental in passing the Korea Telecom Benchmark Test," said H.C. Yi, general manager, Core Network R&D Lab at LG Electronics.

"We are gratified that LG Electronics chose Mindspeed's established network processing technology for its 40-Gbit/sec multi-service switch," said Scott Lane, product line manager for Mindspeed's broadband internetworking systems business unit. "Our network processors offer comprehensive traffic management capabilities for both packet and cell-based applications, and provide flexible, easily upgradeable network solutions."

The M27651 performs the shaping portion of an OC-12 ATM system in high-performance traffic management and internetworking applications. The device provides wire-speed performance by combining a networking-optimized, custom processor with a hardware engine. The M27651 delivers QoS and network domain adaptation for cell traffic streams.

Typical applications include ATM switches, routers, multi-service edge concentrators, DSLAMs, and wireless base stations. The standard UTOPIA and PCI interfaces of the M27651 enable integration in data paths alongside packet or cell switch fabrics and framers.
