19 March 2003 -- Kodeos Communications says it will demonstrate technology capable of 200km optical transmission without dispersion compensation or forward error correction (FEC) at next week's OFC in Atlanta.

The underlying signal processing technology is being incorporated into Kodeos' next generation optical subsystem that will be generally available later this year.

Last year at OFC, Kodeos demonstrated its first optical subsystem transmitting light over 120 km without dispersion compensation or FEC. Three months later, the performance was extended to 150km using "flexible" signal processing and electronic non-return-to-zero (NRZ) modulation.

"We are extending our 10Gbit/s performance to twice that of our competition. Our dispersion tolerant approach eliminates network elements, reducing 10 Gbit/s metro and regional network deployment cost by over 50%," said John Wyatt, Chief Executive Officer.

"During the market slowdown, many companies have reduced their research and development spending, but Kodeos has remained focused on pursuing technologies that provide unique solutions to enable value creating products for our customers."

Jason Stark, CTO said, "Our breakthrough signal processing technology delivers a truly flexible transmission-side spectral shaping approach which greatly surpasses the transmission performance of currently available 10 Gbps opticaltransponders."

The company will be demonstrating its technology that is capable of 200 km optical transmission without dispersion compensation or forward-error-correction at booth #3044 during the OFC2003 tradeshow from 25 to 27 March.
