II-VI to showcase ultra-low profile wide-band tunable optical filters at OFC 2018

II-VI Inc. (NASDAQ:IIVI) said it has launched ultra-low profile wide band tunable optical filters for next-generation pluggable coherent optics, which it will showcase along with other new products enabling next-generation optical networks at OFC 2018 in San Diego, March 13-15.

II-VI Inc. (NASDAQ:IIVI) said it has launched ultra-low profile wide band tunable optical filters for next-generation pluggable coherent optics, which it will showcase along with other new products enabling next-generation optical networks at OFC 2018 in San Diego, March 13-15.

According to II-VI, its ultra-low profile etalon-based tunable optical filter (mini-ETOF) features a 90-GHz passband to enhance the signal fidelity and extend reach by filtering the optical noise generated at the transmitter. The mini-ETOF is designed to be embedded in CFP4, OSFP, and other transceivers with highly compact form factors. With its 3.5 mm profile, the mini-ETOF is a reliable monolithic device mounted in a flat package that promotes optimal transceiver cooling with air flow, says II-VI. Currently available for customer evaluation, the mini-ETOF should be generally available later this year, II-VI expects.

II-VI's product line for pluggable coherent optics includes what the company asserts is the industry's smallest uncooled micro pumps, dual-function hybrid micro-optics, and low profile polarization maintaining couplers. The portfolio includes ultra-compact MEMS tunable filters with integrated variable optical attenuator as well. Also part of the product line is II-VI's recently launched FlexSOM EDFA platform, enabling high-performance amplifiers to be customized to the narrow spaces within coherent transceiver modules.
