Picometrix touts 100-Gbps optical receiver orders

Luna Innovations Inc. (NASDAQ: LUNA) says that its Picometrix division has received $2.8 million in follow-on orders for its 100G intradyne coherent receivers (ICRs) from what the company termed "a leader in the telecommunications industry." Luna and Picometrix did not further identify the customer, although a quote in the press release announcing the orders may have dropped a hint.

"These orders, to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2016, represent follow-on orders to our October 2015 announcement. The Picometrix 100G ICR product platform represents an important opportunity in the growing high-speed long-haul and metro markets," said My Chung, Luna's president and CEO. "The increased level of deployment of new 100G fiber-optic long-haul and metro networks in Asia is creating significant demand for our high-speed optical receiver and detector products. We believe we will see continued growth of this product line as the network is being built out."

Luna gained control of Picometrix in 2015 when it merged with Advanced Photonix (see "Luna, Advanced Photonix to merge"). The latter acquired Picometrix in 2005 (see "Advanced Photonix buys Picometrix"). The company makes receivers for long-haul and metro markets as well as avalanche photodiodes (APDs) and PIN photodetectors for the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), wireless, and data center markets. It also supplies technology to manufacturers of test and measurement equipment.
