Lumentum Holdings Inc. has unveiled the T13 Series of 980-nm pump laser modules. The line leverages an uncooled distributed feedback (DFB) 980-nm pump laser chip that Lumentum asserts is an industry first.

"The T13 Series leverages the same TO-package demonstrated in numerous high-volume consumer applications and establishes the DFB's future role in compact, reliable 980-nm pump lasers for optical amplification applications," asserted Jay Skidmore, vice president, research and development, High Power Lasers, at Lumentum. "The DFB laser eliminates the external grating needed for conventional pump laser designs that opens a path towards much higher levels of integration. Additional benefits include fiber length reduction, a decrease in the device's footprint, plus lower power requirements."

The Lumentum T13 Series laser modules operate at up to 200 mW and are designed to meet such stringent requirements as Telcordia GR-468-CORE for hermetic 980-nm pump modules. The pump modules should assist single-channel and narrow-band amplifier applications for high-bit-rate transmission modules and CFPx transceivers.

Sample quantities are available now, with volume production in December 2016.
