21 November 2002 -- FONS (Fiber Optic Network Solutions) Corp Northborough, MA, US, has completed Telcordia Level 2 Certification to GR-326-CORE, as outlined in SR-4226, Fiber Optic Connector and Jumper Assembly Certification Issue 2.

21 November 2002 -- FONS (Fiber Optic Network Solutions) Corp Northborough, MA, US, has completed Telcordia Level 2 Certification to GR-326-CORE, as outlined in SR-4226, Fiber Optic Connector and Jumper Assembly Certification Issue 2.

This establishes FONS as the first manufacturer in the industry to demonstrate its ability to manufacture connectors and assemblies that satisfy the very rigorous requirements and tests set by GR-326-CORE, Generic Requirements for Singlemode Optical Connectors and Jumper Assemblies, Issue 3.

The FONS 2mm connector assembly satisfied 100% of the specified set of GR-326 requirements in the Level 2 Certification Program outlined in SR-4226, representing compliance to 43 out of 43 optical tests conducted at Telcordia laboratories in Morristown, New Jersey. In addition to meeting all of the mandatory optical performance levels, the FONS connector assembly also achieved the higher target performance levels for almost all of the objectives set by Telcordia and Service Providers, further demonstrating FONS' commitment to deliver the highest quality and most reliable connector assembly in the industry.

Osman Gebizlioglu, Program Manager in the Fiber, Transport & Synchronisation Technologies Group at Telcordia Technologies said, "Other manufacturers have attempted to meet the stringent requirements of this certification, and have succeeded with many of the requirements, but none, with the exception of FONS Corporation, have attained Telcordia Certification.

"FONS demonstrated a sustained commitment to the qualification process and implemented the necessary improvements in their design and manufacturing processes to deliver the performance and reliability to successfully achieve this renowned certification."

Ron Cooper, Vice President of R&D at FONS Corporation states, "The success in optical performance throughout the certification program was largely due to optimization in the connector ferrule end-face, combined with a complete understanding and control of epoxy issues. The technology developed at FONS controls the precision of every parameter of the ferrule end-face geometry. This results in performance and consistency that far exceeds previous levels available in the industry, without sacrificing yields."

Randy Reagan, Director of Engineering at FONS Corporation comments, "The fact that we were able to complete certification with our 2.0-mm cable assemblies, which are one-third smaller than current 3.0-mm cable assemblies commonly used, is a testament to the robustness of our design". Randy continues, "We focused our efforts on applying incremental improvements in the connector design and in our assembly techniques, resulting in a new benchmark in the level of our optical performance and reliability."

FONS announced in June that it's connector products were also verified by the Underwriters Laboratories. This further distinguishes FONS as the first company to complete both Telcordia Certification and UL Verification on connector and cable assembly products.
