VIAVI releases new 1.6 Tbps testing module

Sept. 10, 2024
The growth of AI is accelerating the adoption of 1.6 Tbps transceivers.

On September 10, VIAVI Solutions Inc. announced ONE-1600, a new testing module based on 224G SERDES technology that addresses the testing and validation needs of the 1.6 Tbps ecosystem.

This new module is an addition to VIAVI’s ONE LabPro platform, which also includes the HSE-800 800Gb/s test module, and is designed to accommodate OSFP1600 and QSFP-DD1600 form factors. VIAVI reports that the ONE LabPro testing platform features the highest levels of port density and scalability in the market and enables testing the functionality and performance of integrated circuits, pluggable interfaces, switching and routing devices, and networks.

Commenting in VIAVI’s press release, CEO and chief analyst at LightCounting, Dr. Vladimir Kozlov, reported that the adoption of 1.6 Tbps transceivers and 224G SERDES is being accelerated by the use of optical connectivity in AI clusters.

“LightCounting increased forecast for these products to a million units in 2025, up from tens of thousands in 2024,” said Kozlov. “We have never seen such a sharp ramp for new products.”

VIAVI reports that early customers of the new testing module include InnoLight and Lumentum.
InnoLight chief marketing officer Osa Mok reported that VIAVI’s testing solutions have accelerated InnoLight’s development while ensuring product quality.

“InnoLight has invested significantly in development of 1.6T products based on 224G SERDES technology, and we are happy to announce our next-generation 1.6T optics,” said Mok in a press release. “Our new 1.6T optics enable cloud operators to rapidly upgrade their compute and networks to meet end customer demand.”
