HiLight Semiconductor releases 11.3-Gbps CMOS TIA

HiLight Semiconductor announced the full mass-production release of the HLR10G1, an 11.3-Gbps CMOS transimpedance amplifier (TIA) that can be used with 10-Gbps avalanche photodiodes (APDs) to provide advanced sensitivity performance. Measured sensitivities greater than -33 dBm have been achieved at bit error rates (BERs) of 1E-3, and up to -28 dBm at BERs of 1E-12, across several of the market's commercially available APDs, the company states.

Measured sensitivities greater than -33 dBm have been achieved at bit error rates (BERs) of 1E-3, and up to -28 dBm at BERs of 1E-12, across several of the market's commercially available APDs, the company states.

The HLR10G1 is designed to be suitable for an array of limiting amplifiers and the company's 10G-PON "Combo" ICs, and it features:

· Optimization for use with a wide range of 10 Gbps APDs.

· Low power consumption (24 mA with single 3.3 V supply).

· 2-bit bandwidth adjust function for optimizing the TIA's performance with various manufacturers' APDs.

· A compact die size that HiLight says enables simple, low-cost, high-volume optical receiver assemblies.

In August, HiLight made engineering samples and reference kits for the first members of its series of CMOS "combo" ICs available, and says that its 11.3-Gbps CMOS TIA is another CMOS IC benchmark for the company (see "HiLight Semiconductor sampling HLC10Px series CMOS combo ICs").
