NOVEMBER 10, 2009 – Santec Corp. has announced the availability of a new variable optical attenuator with what the company describes as “extremely low wavelength dependence.” The product is designed for applications where multiple wavelengths are attenuated simultaneously in a DWDM-type transmission system. A typical example is in an EDFA. The device is a modified version of Santec’s MOVA-1 MEMS-based variable optical attenuator. The new product is designed to be compact, low cost, and electronically adjustable using a simple analog voltage. It has an attenuation range up to 40 dB, a response time of <10 ms, low insertion loss, and low polarization dependence (PDL). It is fully qualified to TelcordiaGR-1221. Other features include:
- compact package
- Telcordia GR-1221, GR-63 qualified
- RoHS compliant
Applications include gain control for EDFAs and power control and equalization in multichannel systems.
